Why Do We Celebrate International Day of Education?

Every January 24, people from all over the world get together to support education. It’s International Day of Education, which makes it different from every other day. Today is a day to honour how education can make the world a better, more fair place to live. In 2018, the UN set this day aside to recognize its importance. Quality education is a must, not a luxury. Even so, millions of people around the world are still unable to get an education because they have to deal with things like poverty, crime, or unfairness.

This day reminds us of how hard work is needed to ensure that everyone has equal and fair access to a good education.

The Purpose of Celebrating International Day of Education

According to reports, in 2023, 250 million children were out of school, 16% of the primary to upper secondary age group. Since 2021 there has been an increase of 6 million children and 12 million in sub-Saharan Africa. Multiple factors prevent children from getting quality education such as economic circumstances, unavailable resources, and low-quality teaching.

So, to spread awareness of education as a basic human right, the International Day of Education is celebrated. The key reasons for celebrating the day are given below:

1. Addressing Inequities

Even though more people are getting educated, there are still differences in the world. Millions of children still don’t go to school in low-income countries and areas where people have moved. A lot of kids fall behind in school because of things like cultural differences, gender bias, not being able to read or write, and money problems. International Day of Education is held to bring attention to these problems.

This day recognizes that the school system needs to be more open to everyone. This ensures that no one falls behind and meets the needs of all students. Less inequality can happen if primary and secondary education are free, and schools that don’t have enough money are given resources. Also, putting in place laws that help underprivileged groups like refugees, girls, and disabled children.

The gap between the rich and the poor will be removed when these unfair situations are fixed. Everyone will have the same chance to succeed.

2. Advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and SDG 4’s goals for schools go hand in hand. It encourages people to keep learning and makes sure that everyone gets a quality education. The most important thing that can fix the world’s problems is education. People are asked to work together to make schools better on International Day of Education.

By investing in education, we can make a big change for the better in every part of sustainable growth. Today, everyone works to fix issues like bad buildings, not enough money, and teachers who aren’t trained enough so that everyone can get a good education.

3. Empowering Individuals and Communities

Education is very important for both personal and social growth and for giving people power. It gives everyone the tools, information, and self-assurance they need to make their lives better. It helps people find jobs that are important to them. People who are educated make smart choices that help their communities make progress in both business and social areas. It helps people and makes sure that towns will be successful for a long time.

Education makes sure that future generations will be able to adapt and grow. Educated people can solve any problem with new and creative ideas, which helps communities grow. It turns into the power of peace and learning to change things.

International Day of Education ensures resilience and sustainable development for generations in the future. Educated people have innovative and unique ideas about any problem which helps communities to grow. It becomes the transformative power of learning and peace.

4. Shaping a Brighter Future

Education is the key factor in shaping a brighter future because it equips individuals with creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Students engage in mutual discussions, practical skills, and experiences of life. An educated person handles conflicts in an inspiring manner leading to his leadership abilities.

Most students start their businesses using their knowledge. They actively help the world grow and break the loops of poverty in this way. Getting an education gives students the tools they need to deal with problems and reach their own goals. They feel strong and happy that they are making a change in the communities.

Poverty can be reduced by education and getting jobs and internships that help them improve their skills. It’s a key part of being successful in every area of life. Another thing it does is help keep the peace in a violent and unfair world. On International Day of Education, everyone is asked to work together to fix issues like poverty, unfair access to education, and a lack of resources. The world can help people gain power and a better future by emphasizing education.

Conclusion

International Day of Education reminds us of the impact that education has on individuals and communities. On this day, we should recognize the challenges that millions face for quality education. To spread awareness of this basic human right, global solidarity and collaboration are important. A high-quality education system derives sustainable development, promotes peace, and reduces inequalities.
